Large Breasts

Large breasts, medically also called pendulous breasts can be a nuisance, but often run in families as a genetic trait. The breast weight is such that the bra straps cut into the shoulder and cause upper back and shoulder pains. The upper back often develops a forward curve (called “kyphosis”), which can lead to difficulties breathing over the years.

Treatment

For clinically significant cases of large breasts the physician might consider referring the woman for an assessment by a plastic surgeon to see whether a reduction mammoplasty (thanks to www.poustiplasticsurgery.com for this link) is indicated.

Mostly patients with this problem who have a reduction mammoplasty done are very happy about the results. Before the referral to the plastic surgeon the patient should be started on the zone diet plan (Ref. 2) that targets hyperinsulinism. Part of the breast size might be due to subcutaneous fat, which responds to a weight loss diet plan. In patients where the structural fat inside of the the breast is increased in volume, a reduction mammoplasty is the best approach. Talk to your doctor about this problem.
